We are excited to announce that Eileen Heldmann, VMD, MS, JD, DACVS, and Kelly Gellasch, DVM, DACVS, are now credentialed in the use of Vet-Stem® Veterinary Regenerative Medicine.
It is currently being successfully used to treat conditions that receive limited benefit from traditional therapies, such as osteoarthritis and other orthopedic problems. This type of Regenerative Medicine involves using adult stem cells obtained from the pet’s own fat tissue, and so eliminates any concerns about embryo use or rejection by the patient. Additionally, the patient’s cells are not passed through cell culture, minimizing worries about infection.
Current uses for Vet-Stem® Regenerative Medicine in canines include:
Canine Osteoarthritis:
- In NSAID non-responsive cases
- In NSAID intolerant cases
Orthopedic diseases where the patients are:
- Non-surgical candidates
- Candidates with non-healing fractures
